| Sustainable seafood
The Marine stewardship Council (MSC) is an independent, non-profit organisation. They support sustainable fishery by using an environmental logo in order to identify fish products certified according to their standard. In 2005 was Domstein Sverige certified to use MSC-labelled Alaska Pollock, hence we are allowed to use MSC?s blue product logo. This logo facilitated to make a correct environmental choice of seafood products for the consumers.
As our oceans are being seriously overfished it has become one of the most challenging environmental problems. Domstein Sverige will strive to contribute to a sustainable fishery and has introduced the policy to use MSC-labelled Alaska Pollock. Today we use MSC-labelled fish in 45 of our products but off course is our goal greater than that.

Environmental facts & figures for Domstein Sverige AB
Heating system: Heat recovered from the compressors of our facility covers the hot water requirement of our entire company and contributes 80% of our total heating requirement. The remaining heating requirement is met by heat recovered from our ventilation system and heat from a small electric boiler.
Energy consumption: Our energy consumption has been reduced by means of recovery and other energy saving measures.
Refrigeration systems: 3 walk-in freezers are equipped with CFC-free refrigeration units. The refrigerant is ammonia (a total of 1 200 kg), which has minimum environmental impact. Our refrigeration units run on the environmentally-friendly refrigerant R404a (a total of 50 kg).
Sewage treatment: Sewer water is treated by three different systems: Waste water is piped to the municipal sewage treatment plant. Process waste is treated by grease and sludge separators and the resulting sludge is sent to a biogas production facility. Brine from barrels is collected in a tank and also used to produce biogas.
Water consumption: Our use of water has been reduced sharply through a number of water-saving measures.
Recovery system: Glass, metal, wood, paper and plastic used in production are recovered. This also applies to waste oil from the prefrying process. Our total amount of waste products has been halved and is continuously declining.
Packaging systems: Domstein Sverige AB is a member of a recycling organization, the REPA Register, which means we take full responsibility for packages in Sweden. We also participate in corresponding associations outside Sweden, such as "Der Grüne Punkt".
